DH pulled his credit report. THere was a charge-off showing up from Verizon Wireless [June '97]. We never had an account w/ Verizon. We had an account w/ another celluar company. We had a problem . The short story is , we ended up just paying off the rest of the contract in full. And that was the end of it , so we thought.
We are assuming that Verizon Wireless bought the cell co. we had an acct. with. But, the acct. wasn't a charge-off.
We disputed it on Experian with " not mine". Results are due by 4/9/02. It shows pending.
Today [4/4/02], Verizon Wireless showed up on the caller ID. What do you think they are up to ? What would you folks do ? Not take the call if they call back or what ? Any thoughts on the situation ?
    Thanks

Did you ever have an account with GTE Wireless, Airtouch, PrimeCo, or Bell Atlantic Mobile? Those companies formed Verizon Wireless in July of 2000.

I believe it was GTE .
The thing is, it was not a charge-off. We paid the rest of the contract. We fell behind on some payments [our son was in Peds ICU]. They called & demanded the amount we were behind plus alot more. I asked what all the extra was , & was told that was the amount of the rest of the contract [ because we fell behind ... stimpulation in the contract]. This woman wanted the payment right then on the phone. I told her I needed to call her back ... needed an hour to switch some from savings to checking & borrow the rest [from relative] & deposit it. THis woman started yelling at me & saying you are paying NOW or the I'm sending the Sherriff to your door, etc. We got the money in the checking & DH called the cell co back within an hour & paid over the phone.... in FULL . That was suppose to be the end of it.
Seeing Verizon really confused us. I had posted here when we first saw it on his report. Someone posted that Verizon had bought out other cell co. So, we figured that may be how Verizon came up with DH's name. But, the account was not a charge-off ! That was why Dh used the "Not Mine".

I sorta went through the same thing with Verizon in January. I was with Bell Atlantic Mobile back in '97. I co-signed for my roommate's cell phone and when I moved away, he screwed up the bill. Verizon bought out B.A.M. and then showed a charge-off for the account. I must have called them half-a-dozen times (pre-CreditNet) explaining, begging, and just nagging the shasta outta them. I finally got in touch with someone and she agreed to remove the listing completely... and they did. Now that I'm a little bit older and a lot wiser (post-CreditNet), I would suggest getting in touch with a supervisor and having them look at the account history. Anyone with half a sunflower seed for a brain will be able to see that the account was paid in full. But usually, the managers are the only one's with that much gray matter upstairs!

    momma,
I also went through this like yourself and Smitty. I was with Airtouch, wanted out of the contract, paid it 2 mos late. I'm not sure if they charged it off or Verizon did it (It shouldn't have happened in 2 months anyway). But I didn't have any proof that Airtouch didn't, so I went after Verizon. I almost sued them, but they gave in prior. They did screw up multiple times though, which made it easier for me.

I sent them a validation letter and got a "fraud form" to fill out. I had some nasty lady try and contact me multiple times by phone, even though I asked for all correspondence in writing.

She then re-aged the account and pulled a hard inquiry. That's really what allowed me to win.

I let that contact drop and waited a month and emailed the executive offices (execoffice.oh@verizonwireless.com) who put me in touch with a financial type. I nailed them on their FCRA violations. He must've been going back and forth with legal, but they did finally fold :)

My threads that have all the correspondence with Verizon are:
    First and Second email
    Final email

If they don't have any clear cut violations. You could go after the them on the fact that you did indeed pay this off when due with GTE and no way could it have been charged off.
