Does anyone know what 'B' credit means with Verizon? I recently switched to their service and that is what the rep wrote on the form. The last time I saw my score,2/02, from Equifax it was 526(yikes!!). Although, I have had a couple of things deleted/changed on my report back in March. Thanks!!

It means you better "B" fixing it up.

In reality, I have no idea. Probably a B is less than perfect, which would be an A??

What did they tell you? You have to be on prepaid? It's either a yes or no with a wireless phone co... not like they need to determine interest rates or anything. Verizon pulled my TU.

OT, but Verizon is the best wireless provider by far. Service, as well as customer service. I've been with several different companies and am completely satisfied with Verizon. SPRINT, on the other hand....they SUCK.

I should have included this in my first post, $0 deposit-regular service. Actually I have a Sprint account with 2 phones and 1 phone is fried. I went to purchase a new phone and saw that Verizon has a better service area. I thought what the hay and went for it. I was very surprised that they said no deposit. I am pleased with the service so far, only been 2 weeks. By the way I checked my TU on 4/2 and their score was a 562(ouch!!). I am working on getting some paid off charge offs deleted. Thanks for your reply.

P.S. When I began with Sprint 2 years ago I had a $125. deposit. I went with them because they had the lowest max. deposit amt. I've heard that Verizon and Cingular are more strict.

I too heard Verizon was strict with credit scores so when my brother gave me his phone I needed to find a more lenient provider. Unfortunately, everyone I called said I would have to use Verizon since they programmed the phone. I expected to have a huge deposit requested since I have one charge off and a score of 535 with TransUnion (yeow!). The rep ran a credit check and said that I have excellent credit... boy was I surprised and exclaimed, "I do! er, ofcourse I do" (I sure wasn't going to correct their infailable system;) - no deposit required. My Transunion report sent to me later confirmed they checked with Transunion. I think they may have a bug in their system at times.

It all goes to the voodoo of scoring models. Visa/MC use a different "industry model" than the telephone providers. I was talking to a Sprint rep about this last month. He was a nice guy, not your usual pushy sales weenie, that I ran into at Best Buy. We were talking about different plans and how they compare to the plans I can get through work etc. I mentioned I was more inclined to get the phone via work because the corporate rep said they don't run credit checks (even though the phones are for personal use). The BB rep said that if I was worried about getting approved then there was no need because Sprint pretty much approves everyone.

They have different tiers A through G (I think) where A = $0 deposit and any plan/add-ons you want, C = $0 deposit with a spending limit of say $300 all the way down(up) to $100 deposits with $100 spedning limits (so you'd have to pick a plan less than $99/mo). He said most people get C or better and when the reps run your credit, they don't see the actual scores, the computer does it all and tells them A, B, C etc. He said they must use a different model than retail because he's had people get a B score for a phone yet at the same time get turned down for a Best Buy credit account so they could buy the phone in the first place!

My credit was and is horrible when I signed up for an account with Verizon. My EQ=497, TU=533, and EX=601.... I was approved on the spot with no deposit, limits, or restrictions. I even got the low-end phone for free with a one year contract. I've since heard the wireless companies are hurting for customers these days. I have been very pleased with my service from Verizon!

I have a friend who works for them.

A and B get regular service, no problem. C can have a deposit

anything lower and you go elsewhere. They are pretty strict, actually. ATT will give you the same service as A paper even if you have C credit, but they want to bill to a credit card.

    Your credit is fine :)

WHAT WOULD BE THE BENEFIT OF NOT HAVING IT BILLED TO A CREDIT CARD???
