We filled out the paperwork Thursday nite for a 2003 Venture WB edition. We tried in November before I started clean up on the credit reports (they were a mess). We talked to the F&I lady at the dealership (we are on base overseas, so we are dealing w/ only 1 dealer) and she agreed to go into the credit union and "go to bat" for us - she says she is really good friends w/ their credit manager. They are looking at the credit reports I have pulled to get an idea of if this is possible or not. We are not buying it right away, but we need a preapproval from some sort of 'bank' to special order the vehicle. So all we need is a "ya or nay". When we tried in November this particular credit union pulled TU (now 686 - 96bk and one CA in dispute are my only negs)and Exp (now 666 - 96bk and one incl. in bk in dispute are my only negs). We are getting a 3k rebate and plan on putting 7k down on it. She said we probably won't know anything until Wed. and I am soooo nervous. The worse thing on these 2 reports are the cc utilization, I have 2 Cap1 accts that of course don't show the CL so my utilization looks quite high and I did explain that to the lady.....oh please let me make it though these next few days!!!
Well good luck. Credit unions are traditionally more easier on consumers than banks.. and rates are normally lower.
kelcol, Which credit union are you with? We're overseas too, just not on a base but I know the pains. We're with Navy Federal. Don't fret, credit unions are much more friendly than regular creditors plus they seem to pay a lot of attention to your relationship with them. If you've been current with the union and you have a couple of years with them, they just might be willing to forget some FICO hiccups. PawMix
We are with Community Bank the overseas military division of BofA (although it is supposedly a CU) I'm a little ticked right now, I pulled a 3-in-1 and low and behold what do I see? an inquiry from BofA dated 3/3/2003. It was an electronic application so nowhere to cross through the *allow them to pull credit report*. Both the car salesman and the F&I lady KNEW how adamant I was that they not pull anything unless they called us first. I didn't even want to apply yet, wanted to wait until May to pay down the cc's. "How about you give us what you have and see where you stand? NOTHING will be run w/out your approval!" They only pulled Exp (not TU) and it is my only inquiry on there, but grrrrrr Just label me idiot of the month...thank you for the title, I think I worked hard to deserve it!!
Lesson learned - never ever trust those friggen people at the car lots....just checked my TU report - inquiry from BofA today. <<<<<Going back to my corner now to stew>>>>>>>
Got approved for 7.2% for 72 mths will try and get that lower as time gets closer to actually pick up the vehicle....thanks for listening to me ramble!
