Update on San Diego County child support chronicle:
Hope this information helps someone else . . .
Your Best Alternative is to Get an Attorney - Validation and Estoppel Are Useless.

My husband and I visited with our attorney this morning. Short Version: He has children living in California. Child Support has regularly come out of his paychecks for the last 11 years. San Diego sent four entries to his credit reports indicating incorrect and large amounts due; one said he owed $99,999.

We sent validation letters. They changed the reports but simply lowered the amounts showing them as a collection - one as a charge off!! Still listing large outrageous amounts. Their "representative" said it was due to computer error.

Out attorney said that governmental entities are not governed by the FCRA; they are self-governing. So sending validation and estoppel letters are useless. They are so steeped in bureaucracy and political mess that essentially they go unchecked. They can ruin your life, and unless you have a large amount of $$ for appeals court fees - there is nothing you can do.

The plan we agreed on is for the attorney to mediate with the atty. for San Diego. He is getting copies of all court orders and will try to get them to put it in writing that the credit report entries will be corrected. Sadly, that could take up to a year.

My husband looks like a deadbeat dad on paper because of those entries. He has lost a management position and we have been denied credit - with each place mentioning the large phantom "charge off" amount and past due amounts that really don't exist.

This is what credit rape feels like!!
