Sorry about the seperate post, but I wanted to keep everything straight! I had a Visa acct closed at about the same time as the Discover acct. It too had around $1,000 owed. I paid it off last year. Before I paid it off, my Visa sold to another company. I was reissued a credit line of $500 by the new company after my original debt was paid. On my last 2 statements, I see they have increased my line of credit by $700 (without me asking). I would like to get my lates taken off this acct. On my credit report, they seem to be reporting the acct twice, once under the old company, and once under the new company. The problem is that they are showing the same lates, etc., making it appear that I had 2 deliquent Visa acct's instead of just 1. How do I get that changed? Do I dispute the first acct (under the old company) as Not Mine and hope nobody validates it? Then send the current company a letter asking for mercy? Thanks!
That sounds like a plan. Do exactly that. If they come back with "Verified", ask for a procedural request. Ask -- no, demand -- how they could verify it if the company is no longer in business. And take down any phone numbers/addresses they will provide. Write a letter CRRR to that address, and if the letter gets returned as is most likely, you have ammunition to file suit against the CRA. If it still doesn't work, try "duplicate" Fixing credit reports is not a one-shot deal. You may have to dispute and re-dispute it again with both CRAs and the OC. You may have to look at it as a 3 to 4 month project Best of luck. -- lakpr
