Got an email today from Privista that started out with all the usual rigamorole about protecting my credit with their system, all the benefits that weekly watching is providing me, yadda, yadda. Same as all their Monday update and self-promotional email starts out. Just pages and pages of the stuff.

I was tired of scrolling down and was just about to delete it when my naturally suspicious instinct said "keep scrolling".

There cleverly buried somewhere on page 3 among last paragraphs it stated that my membership was about to expire and would be automatically renewed unless I went to a certain link now and went through the online cancellation process (that infamous one that doesn't exist online on their site otherwise... remember all the times we searched for it???)

But wait... you still have to scroll down through several paragraphs of propaganda to find the cancellation link.

Tacky, tacky, tacky. What's more, the email arrives 2 months before what I paid for actually expires, so when I cancel now, I cheat myself out of 2 months I paid for (they so in the email). So if you're thinking, "yeah I'll just wait 60 days and then go to that link", well they're of course hoping you'll forget and they sneak that charge onto you credit card. I'm sure once that's done, you can cancel but get no refund.

Sorry to rant first thing this morning, but that just fries my gravy!

Do they charge $79.95 a year???? I received a charge for that amount and it says something like CIC Credit Report. I can't figure out who that is!

There have been several threads on this board about getting a Privista "referral" from an existing member and they cut the $49.95 down to $29.95. It works, I did it. Then I promptly cancelled when Credit Watch came out in the unlimited format. Within a week I was out of Credit Watch due to a file that was too long to process. So now I have neither. Privista is not as good as CW, but I have no choice at this time.

Post a thread and ask for a referral. It may save you some money if you elect to keep it next year.
