Warrant of Debt -- Library Books? Ok, this is embarrassing, I have 4 overdue books (by about 6 months) for the county I used to live in. I got a warrant of debt in the mail today for fees totalling 250 and it says I should appear in court on June 20, 2002.... But it doesn't say that I can return the friggin books -- LOL -- I can also just pay the fees -- Doh! But I HAVE the books... What do I do next? Should I call the library?
Re: Warrant of Debt -- Library Books? Yes, contact the library immediately. Most libraries want the return of the books, not the fines. So they should be willing to work with you. And you have nothing to lose by contacting them. Good luck.
Re: Warrant of Debt -- Library Books? Those were some REAL EXPENSIVE BOOKS!!! $250/4=$62.50 EACH BOOK????
Re: Warrant of Debt -- Library Books? LOL -- this amount includes the fees -- late fees + attorney fees.. Two of the books were Norton Anthologies (college books) I'll call them and humbly ask them what to do....
Re: Warrant of Debt -- Library Books? My library I used in CALIFORNIA had a MAX FINE OF 90% of the book cost...
Re: Warrant of Debt -- Library Books? For what it's worth... I had two books which I thought I lost. Received notice from the County after a year to pay full cost of books. I later found them (they were gardening books and I had left them in the garage of all places) and ignored the letter from the County and took them directly to the library. The library has a max fine of $5.00 per book so I paid $10.00 asked for a receipt and never heard from the County again.
