We are in the rebuilding process. My husband decided to take a Providian Gold MC offer for a Visa. The card came today and of course he had to call in to activate it. He ended up talking to a lady at Providian who in turn while activating the card proceeded to sell him CC protection. He told her no. She proceed to pressure him to purchase this protection to which he once again said no. He told me as she was wrapping up the call she told him she had activated the card and added the credit card protection plan. By this time he was livid! He said "I told you no, I don't want this credit card protection." I thought he was going to tell her forget it and send the card back. I know Providian is not the best, but he wants to rebuild so he took it. Believe me with the interest rate he will only use it to buy gas or a small purchase and then pay it off at the end of the month. Three times he told her no. What part of no did she not understand. I thought this type of sneakiness is what got Providian in trouble (class action) suit in the first place. I will be keeping track to make sure no charges for this end up on his statement. I know Cap 1 will try to sell you stuff like this, but when you say no, they usually do not go into high pressure mode (at least not when I called). I guess you need credit card protection to protect you from Providian themselves.
