    Ok, so I finally decided to tackle that one bad entry with Innovis and when I called to talk to someone, I got this recording. They are now charging about $9 for your report, depending on your state of course. They still don't have online access. I didn't even have the option to talk to someone live. That kind of ticked me off. So I faxed in my dispute which didn't have a report number on it or anything. Just a name. I filled it out with the info they requested so we will see what happens. The thing that gets me is, they want $9 bucks to get their little report. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but by law aren't they supposed to offer a live person to talk to since they are a CRA? I thought I heard of the big 3 getting into trouble for that some years back.

    If you press zero during the recording, you'll get transferred to a live person. One who won't take your dispute infomation by phone unless you live in CO. I don't live there so they just repeat about sending it in and try to discourage you against doing it by suggesting that you contact the creditor. When I sent my dispute in to them, I added my ss to the form so maybe they could find my report again.

    I apologize for sounding so bitter but I am so sick of these credit bureaus and their tricks to keep you from being able to access your own personal information.

    Thanks for the info. I will try that the next time I call. When Doc I believe first mentioned their existence, I called and got my report for free. Now, they want to charge. I think that this board put them on the map sotospeak because we found out about them and posted the info and so now they want some cash. Oh well....... lol

    I thought the FCRA states 'a' credit reporting agency must provide a free copy of hte report. 'A' means each and therefore they can't charge.

    Dear MilkMom,

    Here's what you're looking for;

    http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2000/01/busysignal.htm

    "For Release: January 13, 2000
    Nation's Big Three Consumer Reporting Agencies Agree To Pay $2.5 Million To Settle FTC Charges of Violating Fair Credit Reporting Act

    "Three national consumer reporting agencies, Equifax Credit Information Services, Inc., (Equifax), Trans Union LLC (Trans Union), and Experian Information Solutions, Inc. (Experian), have agreed to a total of $2.5 million in payments as part of settlements negotiated by the Federal Trade Commission to resolve charges that they each violated provisions of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) by failing to maintain a toll-free telephone number at which personnel are accessible to consumers during normal business hours. According to the FTC's complaints, Equifax, Trans Union and Experian (collectively, consumer reporting agencies or CRAs) blocked millions of calls from consumers who wanted to discuss the contents and possible errors in their credit reports and kept some of those consumers on hold for unreasonably long periods of time. The proposed settlements with each CRA also would require that it meet specific performance standards to ensure that CRA personnel are accessible to consumers."

    "The reality is that consumers never got the access to the consumer reporting agencies that the law guarantees," said Jodie Bernstein, Director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection. "These cases demonstrate in no uncertain terms that it's time for Equifax, Experian and Trans Union to pick up the phone and meet their obligations to consumers."

    uh..i don't think that's the case. They do however have to provide you one at no charge if you were denied credit by a creditor who based denial upon their credit report. In other words, if Amex denied you by pulling Innovis, Innovis must provide you with a free report.

    BTW, can someone list one creditor who pulls Innovis to make credit decisions? Does Innovis even have a scoring model purchased from FICO?

    Yes, several people had reports that came from Innovis, that's how we found out about them originally, back in the early days, LOL.

    This really scares me to think that I may have to deal with yet another credit reporting agency. It's bad enough that there are 3, now another is cropping up. It's hard enough trying to keep track of all three and making sure they are reporting accurate info.
