Got a copy of the repair done by the body shop from the CA.

I asked for evidence that my car was involved but there was nothing like that.

Hard to furnish something that don't exist ain't it?
Did you hear anything from the fraud report you filed.

1*An insurance company claimed my car was involved in an accident.
    2*This never happened
3*The other day I got a collection letter for 10000.
4*There was no judgment, lawsuit, etc.
5*The only thing that's scaring me is that if I eventually have to do it for some reason, they might say I -------should have contacted them before.
6*How do you know they don't have a default judgment? I don't. How would I find out?
7*their insured apparently reported the license plate
8*Does Safeco have to prove that they contacted me and how would they do that.
9*Called the police dept. No police report was filed with my license plate.
10*In the letters they threaten license suspension for lack of insurance which is mandatory
11*they called today and said that it is not a debt collection but a subrogation claim and asked if I have insurance.
12*Is anyone aware of any specific Federal or California code (law) which requires me to give them insurance info just because someone claims I damaged their car.

    1*When and where?
2*How do you know it didn't?
3*And if you don't pay it or get your insurer involved safeco will sue you.
4*Give it time there will be if you don't inform your insurance company about this.
5*Is it gonna be any better if you wait another month or 2?
    6*Check at courthouse.
7*But how did they come up with your plate number if your car wasn't there or wasn't involved .???????
8*All they have to do is sue you which is where this looks likes it's headed. you're just speeding it up or assuring it will happen by not telling your insurer.
9*Funny the insured or safco never reported this to the police?
10*Don't take it lightly! It just might happen.
    11*Still a debt collection.
12*What does your insurance policy say about this?

FR is so that if you accidentally kill or cripple someone or smash their car, your can pay back the damage.

Within 2 weeks after the FR law was passed in Ohio an uninsured driver backed into my pick up in a McDonnell's parking lot.
FR sure did me a lot of good didn't it?

    ><- <>- ><- <> ~~~ ><- <>- ><- <> ><- <>- ><- <> ~~~ ><- <>- ><- <>
It's been my experience that FR does much to Harass the innocent such as in fds case and little to protect victims such as myself in the McDonnell's incident.

yes, he needs insurance for a wreck that never happened. He needs insurance whether he has an accident or not, and must prove it when requested.

I don't think he wants to ask too many questions right now.

I wasn't saying for fds to be asking questions. I was referring to his insurer asking the questions.

For failure to comply with an investigation.

In many jurisdictions, failure to comply with an ongoing investigation is a crime.
    Hedwig
    ><- <>- ><- <> ~~~ ><- <>- ><- <> ><- <>- ><- <> ~~~ ><- <>- ><- <>
    What investigation?
It's more like a coning against fds and SAFECOs insured filing a false fradulant claim with SAFECO

I'm not the only one who was reluctant about fds giving out this insurance information.
Read some of the other posters post here in.

It's one thing to provide this when you know you were involved in an accident yet quite another to do so when you know full well something crocked is going on.

I don't blame fds for being caucus I would have been hesitant myself.

Well thanks to FR he's in this mess.
Like I say FR does more harm to the innocent than it helps the victim.

I add and delete liability coverage to my policy several times a year.
    It's never been a problem.

I absolutely will not take my car out on the road without such coverage
another thing I don't do is loan anyone my car.
If anybody tried doing to me what they did to fds I would know it was fraud
right off the bat because of this.

1*I would not advise doing this, simply because if a Police Report has not been filed and they have not asked for proof, they will just disregard his proof of insurance.
(Possible answers to your questions lbrown. )
Q: Why wasn't the hit skip reported to the police.
*A : A false police report is a misdemeanor 1, you will do some jail time, even if its a few days.
2*If they are lying and putting the squeeze on him, better they not file a report and see if the insurance company will fold and pay the claim.

Most states require the insurance company to notify them when coverage is canceled on a car.
Now many states make the company report to the DMV when coverage is canceled, by car.
If you don't turn your tags in or transfer them to another car within a certain period, expect to hear from the DMV. And, as sahlegian said, there will be a form to return, that is what they will work from.

Just one more thing that's wrong with FR
Make sure there's insurance on unused non driven vehicles while doing nothing about those that are out on the road without insurance.

First of all, lb, it doesn't matter if your car is on the road or if you're driving it. If you have TAGS on your car, you must have liability insurance.

As for people driving without insurance, if they are stopped and asked for proof of insurance or are involved in an accident and don't have insurance, whether they are at fault or not, they will most likely have severe consequences ranging from having to file financial responsibility (this is more than an insurance card) up to and including losing their license.

I suggest you go take an insurance course. You'll find out how much you really don't know.

So then if fds hasn't gotten such a form it's a good indication he still has insurance
