I am disputing items on mine and my boyfriends CRA. Today we recieved a letter from a CA on his CRA, he has no idea what this CA is, he doesn't remember having anything to do with this company.

First thing about the letter, his last name is spelled wrong, they spelled the name the most common way and his is not spelled that way.

So the letter says- The purpose of this letter is to request your assistance so that we may reach a quick resolution to your dispute. We are attempting to verify your dispute and it would be helpful to have any documentation you may have that substantiates your dispute. Please mail or fax us any cancelled checks, paid letters, police reports.
    * Your credit report will not be updated if the federal reporting period has expired, or if we have not previously reported on this account.

This is one of the CA's favorite games...

Consumer disputes, they don't have, and don't intend to obtain validation to be able to verify the dispute as required by law, so they want you to provide them proof that they're supposed to provide.

What about the part saying they will not update?

We won't update if the account is past the 7 year FCRA reporting period (THEY CAN'T REPORT if the account is past the 7 year FCRA reporting period).

We won't update if we've never reported the account (How would they have been on the credit report to dispute in the first place, if they've never reported the account).
