Something -that i find- really weird happened yesterday, and I thought I'd ask around here and see if this is normal or not before I dispute.

Went to Wells Fargo yesterday(where I have banked for 8+ years), and added my wife to my checking account so it would be a joint account for us.

Came home and pulled my free equifax credit report using that trial thingy, and noticed Wells Fargo did a hard inquiry on me today.

Does this make ANY sense to anybody? Why would they do an inquiry on me to add a name to MY checking account?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

The USA Patriot Act requires that banks know their customers, to prevent slush funds usable by terrorists. The banks pull credit reports to verify new customers, whether credit is issued or not.

You might ask them to code it as an Aaccount Review soft inquiry since it is an existing account, and not an increase in credit.
