Hi, I had a Today's Man credit card back in 1998. Today I pull my equifax report and I see that WFNNB/Todays Man and WFNNB/Lane Bryant both pulled my report on 8/15. They show up as soft but I still want to know why they are doing this. To me this could be fradulant because identity hackers could easily just get soft inquiries all the time. So what do I do? Also, what makes it OK for a company to pull an inquiry? If I have an acct currently? If I had one in the past? When does it legally end for them to be able to access it? Thanks, Allen
Interesting. I had the exact same things happen from WFFNB. I used to have accounts with them for a Structure charge and a Today's Man acct & even though both accts have been closed for several years, they also pulled two promotional inquiries on the exact same day. I don't know why either. I cant remember if it was with Experian (probably) or Equifax.
I think its crap that anyone can do that. I called Experian and they said any business can pull a soft inquiry at any time and its legal blah i say!
I can tell you exactly why. About a month ago, someone asked almost your same question. They are in the process of updating accounts and selling them to different collection agencies. In my case, I had one that went bad in 1997, and it was recently sold to Asset Acceptance. On my report they pulled 2 hard inquiries about 2 weeks ago. Before this, it had just been sitting there. It was for a large 198 dollars and Asset Acceptance is trying to say it is 530. Ha ha. Off to dispute land I went........
So you mean if they pulled it, that means i owe them something? my reports show 0 balances and even thought i owe a ton of credit, I HAVE NEVER been sent to a collection agency. have always paid everything blah! now im worried that they gonna make some shit up from 1997
Oh no, I didn' t mean that. I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear. The previous threads indicated that if you once owed Lerner, Lane Bryant, or Roamans, and your account went bad, and you owed them when it went bad, they are updating accounts on credit reports. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I forget, with typing, people don't always know exactly what you are thinking when you type. Sorry ;-)
I don't mean to double post, but: I owed them, and it was still at the original bank. I left it alone because I heard they validate. I just recently figured out how to validate with them, but before I could try anything, they started updating credit reports. When they pulled the 2 hard inquiries recently, I decided then, I wasn't gonna sit around anymore and let them drop my score more.
I imagine the promos from WWFNB are probably so they can find some product that they have that they think you'd like better than the card accounts that you closed. For example, my structure acct might have been useful when I was in college, but now in the working world, I may prefer other types of clothes (and have a lot more money to spend on them).
