On an Eddie Bauer/WFNNB cc, I just received a statement on 1-10-04, with closing date 12-25-03, due 1-19-04. Since 1-19 is not even a USPS delivery day, this barely leaves enough time for the payment, which went out 1-12-04, to reach them before they get to charge a late fee. Is this just mail delays due to Christmas, or does WFNNB have a habit of enhancing their revenue from late fees by late mailing of statements? What is your experience?
Law is they have to provide you with the bill at least 2 weeks before the due date. Is this just mail delays due to Christmas______When was it post marked???
Clearly the statement has not arrived 14 days before due, but they could just say it was the mail, and there is no postmark date. What I would like to know, based on experience of others, is are they "straight", and this is a random mailing delay, or is this a pattern with them. In effect, what is their "score" as determined by their own customers? I have no interest in having any business dealings with any companies that are not honest, and the sooner I determine this, the better.
Re: Re: WFNNB - timely statements? Too bad that doesn't work the OTHER way - when the payment is mailed well before the due date but STILL gets posted the day the late fee is imposed. But, alas, in the world of credit, what is good for the goose is seldom good for the gander.
Re: Re: WFNNB - timely statements? That is why violations that are blatant and systematic should be reported, whatever other action is taken. Otherwise there is no penalty for doing whatever you can get away with, and no benefit to acting in good faith. In the marketplace, as in politics, in the long run you get what you deserve.
