Duh. CC is borrowing money, even if you pay off every month. Think about it.

IT DEPENDS ON WHO YOU ARE...

I have been DENIED the same cards as others have been APPROVED FOR with me having $100,000 more H/H INCOME and 20 MORE YEARS OF CREDIT HISTORY...AND HIGHER F.I.C.O.

...AND LOWER DEBT TO INCOME RATIO...

Borrowing money is irrelavent.. the question is what card carries the most prestige which could mean customer service, level of fraud protection, the amount of rewards you could earn on a particular card, level of difficulty to obtain the card ectectect.

One could choose to borrow money via a payday loan or perhaps a super high interest credit card but I think most would rather use a CC that yields the lowest interest (none if at all possible).

Denny, for me when I started my credit building My goals were to get a Bank of America, USAA, GM Card and Amex Blue. I got all except the Amex Blue (I havn't Applied for it yet).

My scores are roughly anywhere from 730-756 and I havn't paid one single penny in interest as of yet. I plan not to :)

i'm sure by now most everyone knows what the subprime cards, and knows the difference between a providian card and an amex blue ;)

i still get comments on my amex blue, something never done before on other cards.

doesn't really mean anything to me, amex is a "Rewards" card with higher apr than normal so its used for that purpose.

I think the most prestigious cards are the AMEX Centurion and Visa Infinite cards. AMEX Platinum has a lot of benefits, but is not that hard to get anymore so I think that cuts down its selectivity.

    iPoopAlot,

It depends on what you mean by borrowing money. That usually implies paying it back with interest. Many of us don't do that. We are simply USING someone else's money for a period of time. If you can keep you money in an interest-bearing account, you're MAKING a little money while USING someone else's instead of yours.

And even paying interest isn't necessarily bad. If I can get a BT or other low interest rate, invest the money and make more than I pay, then I am increasing my wealth.

Increasing wealth should be your ultimate goal, and it's often not done by paying cash for everything or paying everything off. It means making the most effective use of your money. Eliminating debt and building wealth are not the same thing.

I don't think I had a single investment that made less than 10% last year. Several were in the 30% range. So if I borrowed money at 5.9% and made 10%, I'm coming out ahead. If I made 30%, I'm even farther ahead.

I am now paying 0.00% to 4.90% on the cards I pay interest on...

MY MORTGAGE IS HIGHER THAN THAT!!!!

    2+2=PAY MORE ON THE MORTGAGE!!!!!!

Your answer is use CASH and CHECKS????

I DON'T USE CASH OR CHECKS!!! TOO EXPENSIVE!!!

I'm in total agreement with you. However, this thread is about having prestige in holding a credit card. I can't stand people brag about their Amex Black, Platinum, or even Blue. I have both Platinum and Blue card, but I don't think it's something that gives me prestige. It's so sad that people now judge people by what color their credit card is...

I felt a certain prestige when I got my Platinum Amex. You just don't see that many of them.

but...I also wonder if people thought I was stupid for paying $400 per year to have one. I did. traded down to gold. :)
