What credit cards just don't give credit after a bankruptcy? What about Lowes? I'd rather not bother if I know they will reject me no matter how long since the bankruptcy or how well I do with my payments.

    Thanks

Don't know anything about Lowe's, but bofa just turned down dh last month w/ a 96 bk and perfect report otherwise. The reason they gave w/ the immediate denial was - bankruptcy. I requested reconsideration thru pfb and never heard a word.

How about also adding what cards/accounts HAVE been attained after BK.....

(this has been done before but the info changes so I think it is great that we do it again)...

    Turned down because of BK
    Bank of America
    Chase
Amex (I did get to keep mine through BK though)

    Recieved with BK
    Capital One
    Providian
    Ford Motor Credit (car loan)
    Ohio Savings Bank (Mortgage)

please feel free to add or comment on what you think may be incorrect.....

bofa = Bank of America (ok I should correct myself too, they turned us down for a cc but not for a 30k car loan)

    Hi-

    Ford Credit -> I got a 7.x% rate.

NanaC's post was a good one, I participated in it myself.....however- most of it is outdated now as a lot of banks have come and gone and/or changed their policies........For Example- Amex- you used to be able to call in and get an override if you got the right person but that trick seems to have died.

I think it is a great idea to do this post again.....

Just checked the link and it works. Avoid Cross Country Bank and First Premier Gold. I don't know if they were among the lousy offers you received but I suspect you received either or maybe both.

I was discharged 12/02 and as far as new credit I have a Providian Visa (CL $2000), Household Bank ($1500) and Target Guest ($200). With the scores you have described on "Free Advice", you should have no problem getting similar or higher credit limits. I avoided Cap 1 because they don't have the "High Limit" reporting on your credit reports like other credit cards do.

If you apply on line for a Target Guest (maybe you can apply for a Target Visa) they will pull EQF; in store, they pull TU. I think my other cards (Providian and Household are more regional. Near the top of this board is a thread by "Psychdoc"; I believe it's called "Who pulled my Credit". If you look at this thread you will be taken to a "Yahoo Group" where he has a very user friendly database established.

    Again, good luck.

thanks Cyna, you just explained something to me....why Cap 1 shows my limit at 1700 when it really is 7500. don't suppose their is anything I can do about that is hthere?

You can add Wells Fargo SECURED card to the "no" list. I've been a WF checking customer for 5 years, have several accounts there. Applied for their Secured Card. Decline letter cites "Bankruptcy in Credit File".

Imagine. Wells Fargo now says I can't even borrow my own money from me.

That is just the joy of Cap1....they don't report credit limits, they only report the high limit - meaning the highest u have ever charged the card up. The only thing you can do is charge it up!! There have been some ppl that find out when cap 1 ends their billing cycle - charge it up then when the charge hits the statement - take it back for a credit. DH has 2 cap 1 cards one w/ $750 limit and the other w/ $7500 limit - I so desparately want to attempt this trick but I'm scared too!!
