I want to apply for a credit card but I don't know how to go about it. Currently I only have one which is from my credit union for $1000 limit and 12%. I want to keep that one cuz I've had that for 3 years (never late). I also have an MBNA LOC but I'm trying to clear that one out (Gateway) cuz that one is currently at 26% (high!!). On the credit card, I'm at $830 and the MBNA is at $1335 w/a $1500 limit. I already called them but they said they couldn't make it into a credit card. I still have some negatives on my credit report and don't want a wasted inquiry. On Trans Union, I have a medical bill from '97 and Fingerhut from '00 which I'm still trying to clear. On Experian, same thing as TU but a couple of lates on 2 loans (about 2 30 day each). On Equifax, I have Fingerhut, a duplicate chargeoff (one says paid chargeoff and the other still looks open, but I'm disputing that), and a couple of lates also. I don't want to apply right now but in the near future, I want some more credit lines. Right now I'm just putting in disputes after disputes and paying everything right on time. If anybody applied for a credit card, did they go by website or by phone? Like, for instance, Capital One? I want to raise my scores soon. Thanks for any replies. Janet, Try to apply for Target Guest Card and I heard someone from this board that they were easy to get. Or try to get another secured card like FCNB and it will help to rebuild your credit history. They give up up to 5 times of your deposit and it depends on your credit history. In my case, I had six charge-off accounts and they gave me 1.5 time credit limit of my deposit If you keep your account in good standing and they will return your deposit.Their websites is: https://cardsite.fcnb.com/application/pages/applications/applicationbrochure.asp Check them out. Ron.
