Hello everyone: I wish I knew about this board long ago. My question is what date on the credit report makes an entry obsolete? Is the the date opened, date of last activity,...? I thank you in advance for any help you can give me. Choice
How does one know if its being reported correctly when its only to the CA's advantage to stretch the date? In other words, if a Collection Agency is reporting, what prevents them from reporting falsely and how would anyone know for sure?
In other words, if a Collection Agency is reporting, what prevents them from reporting falsely and how would anyone know for sure? Us (the consumer) can prevent them from reporting falsely by asking them for validation.................... Be careful disputing with the CRA's as "wrong dates" because that may be the same as admitting it's yours and make it difficult to remove later.
I've heard that it's better to challenge on "procedure" rather than validation of the account being yours. Are you all familiar with this approach? For instance they must procedurally tell you who they spoke to and their phone number. On the date thing...is the date opened the date that obsolete is based on? Because I don't see a date of last activity or date of first delinquency, worded as such. Thanks everyone for your input.
Personally, I usually go for "It Ain't Mine" first, unless there are other circumstances. Challenging it as anything else first, makes it a little difficult to come back to "It Ain't Mine". I think it will be listed under a column labeled DOLA for Date of Last Activity. Sometimes it will show when it went delinquent. You just have to study it very closely. If I'm not mistaken, they have to report that within 90 days of initially reporting the account. Amy
No. The CA is required to report DOFD. You can call the CRA and ask, or it's sometimes listed as "FCRA compliance date."
