Hello everyone, NOW WHAT????? Collection agency responds to my DV ltr! 5/2003 - I disputed a $67 paid collections with Experian. They came back with debt verified. I Let it sit for a year. 5/2004 - I called Experian to dispute the date the acct went to collections. The representive asked me what the correct date was because she needed it in order to dispute. I told her I did not have it handy and hung up. 6/7/2004 - I sent a DV letter via CMRR to the collection agency. 6/15/2004 - According to USPS.com the collection agency rec'd my DV ltr @ 10:02am. 6/16/2004 - I CMRR a dispute ltr to experian enclosing a copy of my DV ltr to the collection agency and a copy of the CMRR that accompanied. 6/17/2004 - I rec'd a CMRR from the collection agency that states the following: Dated 6/14/2004. Our office is in receipt of your ltr dated 6/7 re: the above referenced account. Our client, Comcast formerly AT&T submitted this acct to our office for collections on 3/7/01. Our client notified our office on 6/18/01 that this acct was paid in full. A request was sent at that time to have this acct updated as paid in full. A second request has been sent to ensure this account is reporting as paid in full with the national credit bureaus. Should you require any additional information you may contact CMI @ 1800 #########. Sincerely, Director of collections. Obviously there ltr is not validation of the debt. I dont know how to respond or even if I should respond to their letter. So my questions is what should I do now? Should I respond or just leave it? If I should respond what should I say and do you know of any previous sample letters used. Are they in violation since they are not reporting to Experian that this tradeline is being disputed??
Excuse me, but I fail to understand why you would demand validation of a debt you already paid? I realize there can be good reason why one might demand validation of a paid in full debt but the reasons I can think of don't fit this particular application very well Would you please excuse my ignorance and lack of understanding and explain a bit better?
The payment went to the original crediter and never should have reached collections. However, the collections agency is rpting the debt, which is incorrect. Therefore I want the CA to validate this debt. Hope that makes sense.
