In my state, Illinois, they pull Trans Union for Amex. I currently have a score of 750. They said they declined me for too many inquiries, accounts not open long enough, and proportion of balances to limits too high. The thing is, the 2 cards with high balances ($5000 - $5500) are because I am a photo stylist/prop dept. head and I shop for props which I get reimbursed for later from my clients. But the cards are in my name and I take full responsibility for paying them, not any company I work for. I would really like to get an AMEX green for my own personal use, but everytime I apply, I get the above mentioned response. I have no lates or derogs on any report, but they still say no. What should I do? I've aspired for an AMEX since 1991 and I keep getting the door slammed in my face. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Try planetfeedback or try calling 800-641-2400, press 0 and tell the CSR your situation. They might be able to manually review your application. This worked for me a couple of months ago.
Re: What Do I Have to do to get AME First we need some more info. Which Amex card did you apply for; As for TU: How many INQs & what overall debt ratio do they show on your report. The # you were given above is for Amex New Accounts. Ask to speak with a supervisor and see what they have to say. Saar
Re: What Do I Have to do to get AME When I first applied for AMEX I was turned down. 3-6 months later I got a letter in the mail inviting me to get my preapproved card. My scores at the time were not great.
Re: What Do I Have to do to get AME Apply for Amex Starwood or Delta, wait six to nine months and apply for the Green if it is what you want.
Re: What Do I Have to do to get AME Amex is WEIRD. 750 and they declined you for a green?? I got a preapproval for gold with around a 670. And I am still getting preapprovals for platinum (even though I already have one). Which makes me think that they are getting 3rd party info from somewhere..... not the CRA's. Possibly etrade? Or my bank? Because those are the only other accounts I have. Maybe they are selling info to Amex. But I really don't understand how I can be declined for Citibank student cards but get preapprovals for Amex Platinum charge cards. Is it possible they are getting a list from somewhere? Do credit card companies do that? Thanks.
