What do you do when the OC reages?

I'm in shock looking at my Experian report. An OC with a DFD of 5/2000 has reaged their entry to 2013! There has been absolutely NO activity since May of 2000. What do you do in that case?

    Dispute the tradeline with EX.

Before you dispute the tradeline with Exp, write the OC and request "verification" of the information furnished to the CRAs. State that you dispute information furnished to the CRAs. Obviously, send the request Certified Mail Return Receipt Requested, when you have received the "green back" back, THEN dispute with Experian.

Note: to cover yourself, send the "OC verification request" to the address on your Exp report. The FCRA laws are a bit weak here, but the FCRA states they must provide the address to dispute directly with the OC. So, cover yourself and send it to the "provided address".

I'm going through the exact same thing right now. My OC is only reporting the bad date to Experian - it dropped off of TU and EQ on time (last year). I called Experian twice and got two answers. The first time, they said the OC was reporting a late pay in 2003. The next time I called them, I asked how it could be reaged because of a payment (which I didn't make - no activity whatsoever since 1999). They responded that it was first reported delinquent in March 2003.

I have done two things so far. First, I sent a letter to the OC requesting validation of the debt (got it out of the Sample Letters forum). Then I dug around and found an old credit report prior to 2003 that showed that the OC was reporting the account as delinquent in 1999. I made copies of that and sent a dispute letter directly to Experian telling them that their contention was false that the account was first reported delinquent in 2003.

I have not yet gotten a response at all from the OC regarding validation. It's been almost a month now. I just sent the letter to Experian, so they haven't had time to respond.

Good Luck with it. If you find something that works, let me know - and I'll do the same. I think Experian is part of the problem too. They seem to be the most harsh and hardest to deal with.
