Ok...history first....before I knew about this wonderful site...I applied for credit/was denied credit/sent in for free credit report/received same from TU/saw two collection items/paid these two collection items (1/2 settlement accepted)...i know...i know...but what's done is done..... Now...on to my question....I am in the process of trying to get these two collection items deleted off of my reports (listed on all three)...do I send in a validation letter first....or do I send in the 1st nutcase letter? I know that it may be kinda difficult to get these items deleted since I paid them...but they are both from utility companies...and I don't recall ever signing anything..... Suggestions/advice/ would be greatly appreciated!!
I believe that once the debt is paid it's too late to validate. The validation letter basically says verify that this debt is mine. It's paid now, so there is no debt anymore. There's also the arguement of "If you didn't think the debt was yours, then why did you pay it?". I'd recommend starting out with the nutcase letters. HTH, Brett
"If you didn't think the debt was yours, then why did you pay it?". BrettS =========== could have been a mistake you know?
I would wait 6 months and dispute it as not mine. Usually, the CA's OC'S only respond to people who owe money, Then you can send a validation letter and act like you don't remember anything about this bill. Basically, wait 6 to 7 monts for them to get so busy that they don't have enough time to answer your paid bill. If you start making a rucous now, they are going to hold on harder to the bill. ... We all make mistakes,
Yeah....I made a big time mistake in not FIRST utilizing all of the information that I have available to me on a daily, not to even mention....FREE basis. But....I honestly did not even know about any of these credit boards, and then when I did find out all the info, I could have cried. But, the bill is paid....the biggest mistake by far, was just negotitating a settlement, and not bothering to negotiate for total deletion from my CR once account was paid. No....I knew the debt was mine....but you know how it goes....when trying to clean up your credit report.....you first try to deny, deny, deny. So...hmmn....let's see, I paid both collections in April 2003. So...based on the advice given, I should wait, say until around October and dispute as "not mine."?????
