Hi, I have a collection account on my TransUnion report that is from an old school bill. The bill is not a student loan just an unpaid balance from the college. I contacted them and told them I would pay the balance in full if they would delete the account. They said they would not delete the account and that it would remain on my report for 7 years paid or unpaid. I tried to contact the college and told them I wanted to pay the bill in full. They sold the bill to the collection agency and now will not accept payment for the account. I was going to try to send in the payment anyway to see if they would accept the payment. What do you suggest? Seems to me if I am stuck with this on my report then I should just send in monthly payments. By the way TransUnion is my lowest score being a 515. I've tried disputing with no luck. thanks for your help. nj_newbie
How old is the bill? If it is approaching the 7 year mark, I would just wait for it to fall off and forget about it. I would continue to dispute it, the odds are in your favor that eventually they will fail to respond within 30 days and it will drop off the report. As for your score, don't even bother paying it. If they are not going to remove it, paying it will do nothing to help your score. A collection, paid or unpaid is basically the same when it comes to your score.
