They tell you that they can't delete for payment? I need a good line. I have searched through the old posts on the best way to get my medical collections paid AND removed and I only get more confused then before I started. I've still done nothing because I'm clueless!! All of my medical collections are to 1 collection agency. They total $1800. That's a lot of money to me. I would like to pay and have it REMOVED. Mortgage company says I only have to pay though. I only have 2 months to get this done or we don't get the house!
If you only have 2 months, don't screw around with it. Just pay it off and dispute later. No sense in putting your house on the line unnecessarily.
Ask them why? There is no law saying that they HAVE to report, only that they have to report accurate information.
You're right tmitchell...I shouldn't screw around. I just thought it would be harder to remove later versus now before I have paid them. If I pay now I won't have that bargaining chip later. They are my accounts, I owe, have to pay and deserve to pay. Just thought with medical collections I could negotiate since I fully feel that the insurance should have paid those.
How will that work if the account is being reported by a CA? Can the original creditor (hospital) get the CA's listing deleted?
Have you tried to contact the original creditor? I did and the hospital agreed to delete for payment. They will give me a letter and receipt each time I pay one account off stating this.
Wow Christi! That's great. I have not tried to do that with the original creditor. Are you paying in full or did you negotiate? Why is it that the original creditor can delete an account they SOLD to the collection agency and the collection agency says they can't delete it if you pay them? Just how in the heck does the original creditor delete it then if they don't actually own the account anymore?? It's SOOO confusing to me.
One possibility if they refuse to remove. Get them to agree to not resopnd to the CRA when you ask the CRA's for verification. Here's how it works. You pay the CA and get the agreement in writing before you pay. Technically they are not deleting in return for payment so the CA is happy. You dispute with all three CRA's. They send the paperwork to the CA who does not respond. Then, the CRA's delete because they were not able to verify. The lender is happy because you paid your bills. The CA is happy because they did not delete in return for payment. And, after a few months, it comes off your reports. I have seen others post here that this works. But it is not perfect. Sometimes the CA will verify the info to the CRA's and you have to call them and remind them of their agreement. Or the CRA may not actually verify, but just say they did. But, it is worth a try. And this bears repeating - GET IT IN WRITNG FIRST.
