A local furniture store lets you write a check postdated. I thought it was a bad idea, but hubby went and did it anyway. He bought a new entrainment center, because kids (ages 1 and 2) were able to touch his stereo in the old one. Two-year-old had almost broken the $300 cd player he got 2 years ago. The check is dated for next Monday but we won't have the money in the bank until the following Monday. The store uses telecheck. Will they give him a chance to pay it before they take him to court? The check is for about $600. We want to pay it, but we also have rent due this week and we have to have a place to live. I hate that he did this. We are trying to fix our credit and then he did this stupid thing.
You might try calling the store and tell them you made a mistake on the date and won't get paid until the following Monday. They should be acommodating for you, since you are paying in full. Then go collect that check and issue one with the proper date.
I'd try what psp said. Call the store and notify them of the mistake and you are willing to return the property if they can't hold the check an extra week. At least you are taking responsibility of avoiding a bounced check. You also take a chance of your bank reporting you to ChexSystems. You DO NOT want that. Ask anyone in here.
