What does a soft inquiry entail?

I don't recall this being discussed before.... and I've been wondering... exactly what type of information is provided when someone does a soft inquiry?

I assume your name, address, etc... but do they get the score too? # of accounts? Balance owed? Amount of credit unused??

    Anyone know?

It depends on which soft inquiry you're referring to.

A 'PRM' soft inquiry, which stands for promotional inquiry, only allows the potential creditor to get your name and address so they can make a somewhat solid offer of credit.

A 'AR' soft inquiry, which stands for account review, is when one of your current creditors is checking on your "progress" with other credit obligations. I believe they get to see your whole profile.

As far as scores goes, most companies have an internal system to do their own scoring, so they probably won't need to see your score from the CRA, because they make it up themselves, based on their own criteria.
