Hi all. Serious question. I've paid alot of money and time to "clean" debt, defend myself in court and file validation letters with creditors and third party collectors. I am aware that potential employers, insurance companies, etc... can and often do look at your credit report. I have recently remarried to a wonderful young woman who has good credit, good enough to purchase a home. The question is this - facing further fights and potential lawsuits, if I no longer CARE about credit (given that I only want to finance a home in the future) and that I live in Texas (a state very favorable to consumers) and that I have nothing in my name, including a checking account, what (if any) is the reason for me to play the "game", clean credit or even care about what my score is, answering creditors or filing answers to suits? I have fought the battle for almost 5 years and I'm growing weary, almost ready to give up and never finance anything again, keeping retainer fees, settlement amounts and credit cleaner fees to myself for cash flow.... Thanks in advance for your insight and advice. Cheers!
As far as "clean" credit goes, I think you listed most of the reasons why that may or may not be important, but the law suits are a different matter. Whether or not you ever buy anything on credit, a judgement can follow you for a long time so, if it were me, I wouldn't ignore those because they'll continue to haunt you for a long time to come. But, I hear you. Getting as far away from the whole credit racket is definitely the best way to put this in your past.
Since no one can predict the future - sudden death of your spouse, divorce, for examples, getting credit on your own/in your own name should be a priority. You never know when you will be hanged out to dry.
