Hey, What happens when you're almost done with cleanup? I know initial strategy was to get rid of all the "slam dunk-ers", then work on the more difficult ones. Now I'm stuck. I have the last disputes going right now. 3 baddies left on tu. I know 2 of them will not go away until sol runs out. What now? Will be wierd not doing this! Do I vigorously try to get the last 2 baddies off? I know they will verify (94 bk and 1 inc in bk for car ex filed bk on-haven't bothered to disp bk yet). Hard to just sit back. I have just a little more to go with eq. ex is perfect. Already seeing benefits of cleanup. Just finished hubby's cleanup too....experian is EVIL, lol, Started with 22 derogs in 10/02 Have 3 left as of 02/05 <whew>
Hey would you mind emailing me the process you followed or your story? I'm getting ready to take action and additional insight would be appreciated. jackisloved@hotmail.com
I will, if you want me to. What is your starting point? My credit was wrecked because of 94 bk and 2000 divorce. Starting scores were in the 500's. I disputed different stuff on tu than eq at first...wanted to see who would delete what. That has worked. So far (fingers crossed) I've only had 3 things total verify. At that point, I started working with OC. Not done yet. I will try to send more detailed strategy if you want. I pretty much just started disputing stuff. My first round had anywhere from 11-14 disputes on it. next round had the rest. Every now and then I found a straggler that needed to be disputed because of cancellation letter issued by an oc or ca. It was just pretty much staying on top of correspondence and making sure the cra's did their part. Most of it was done in 2 rounds of disputes, like I said. It has taken patience. I've gotten the "red-ass" a few times. But all, in all, results have been very good. Good luck to you. If you want, tell me what you're up against. There are lots of people here who have done the same thing as me and we all have advice on what has worked for each of us.
I am at 580. I have a couple collections that only show up on 1 CRA, a couple paid charge offs that only show up on 1 CRA, a wrong "alias" name, and 1 big charge off/sent to collections.
psp... Pardon the stupidity...I am not sure how to take your post. ~ Should I stop? Besides, I've read you're making progress.
No, sorry!! You have been so helpful, I just want you to hang around!! I hate to see good people with good advise go to waste!!
heehee...<blushing> No, I'm hoping to one day qualify for CN vet, lol. Love helping others see that this is something that can be done...without having to pay some company to do for you what is absolutley free and so rewarding (well, free less the cost of postage and valium). Thanks a million. Still working on those scores, though!
okay okay, lol. I am at work, so I have to listen for the boss <grin> Which baddies are on which report? Forewarning...exp is usually the most difficult. Fortunately, I have a split file thanks to a name change and the one that I pull/is pulled is the perfect one. Give me a rundown: TU: Exp: EQ: You said the charge off is with a CA now? Who is reporting...cc company or CA? Also, what state are you in? Makes a big difference with FDCPA laws, etc. Not to bombard you with info, but it is all relevant. Also, are the collections paid/unpaid and for what amounts are they (unopaid ones). Are you willing to pay the ones that are unpaid if they validate that they are indeed yours? (Most co's will issue cancellation letters in exchange for pmnt). I didn't forget ya. Also, others may have their own way they have accomplished their results...I can't speak for them...this is just the route I took. I hope others will post some advice too.
pretty funny, psp...maalox quit working...it was only pacifying the symptoms, lol. I just cut to the chase and went for the in-house valium dispenser.
Bathroom sink? It's next to the computer where I spend hours typing letters to oc's, cra's and ca's. It's mounted right above the beer-fridge.
TU: Wrong alias name Collection acct - utilities Collection acct - cellular Collection acct - cc (non-major, X.com) Collection acct - GECS/Best Buy (Best buy wrote off, purchased by another lender) Exp: Collection/now paying - Sears Collection - Kessel Foods Store personal check Collection acct - GECS/Best Buy (Best buy wrote off, purchased by another lender) Equifax: Collection acct - GECS/Best Buy (Best buy wrote off, purchased by another lender) State - MI Everything is paid except the Best buy - Charge off amt - $1539.
No. The only one that might be close is the Best Buy one. I'm not sure what date to go by. They have a date opened in 97 and a date reported in 99.
Re: TU: Wrong alias name: This can be disputed. Send them a letter that says this is not your name. Is it just a variation of your name or completely off? They won't have a prob deleting it if there are no oblligations that are yours that are in this name. Collection acct - utilities Collection acct - cellular: Collection acct - cc (non-major, X.com) Since these are paid collection, you can try one of 2 things. If they are old (more than 3 years), the ca may not have it on file any longer. You can try disputing as not mine. They don't necessarily have to be that old, but the older the info in their systems, the better the chances of deletion. If it comes back verified, then go to OC and tell them due to extenuating circs, it took you some time to pay it. Accept the blame and responsibility and see if they will delete. Remind them the collection is paid. I had some old utility accts that were unpaid, but upon dispute with CRA's, they were deleted completely without question. I would try this route first, like I said, especially if they are old. Collection acct - GECS/Best Buy (Best buy wrote off, purchased by another lender) This one will take some effort. First, which company shows up on your credit report? If it is CA, find a good validation letter on this site. Send it to them CRRR. I have not had to validate anything just yet, but I know they don't validate, they can't report it. You kind of just have to see what happens next. There's a good chance that if you dispute it without validating it first, it will come back verified and the CRA's will think your disoute is frivolous. Also, be sure you aren't playing with fire...if the SOL on filing suit against you has not run out...I would wait till it does. You may end up waking a sleeping giant. I know the balance isn't real high, as far as suing you, but I've seen stranger things happen. I know you can dispute all of this info (except what I said about BB) in one letter. It is up to you on whether you want to tackle more than 1 cra at a time. I did, but others do 1 at a time. Let me think some more about experian. (I hear the boss, lol)
"No. The only one that might be close is the Best Buy one. I'm not sure what date to go by. They have a date opened in 97 and a date reported in 99." SOL begins with the first 30 day delinquency from which the account never recovered. It doesn't really have anything to do with date last reported or date opened. This is regarding the CA for best buy's ability to sue you. What are your state SOLs for this?
I'm not sure when that was to be honest. Any way to find that out? The SOL for everything in MI is 6 years.
