I emailed an OC asking to confirm my acct. They asked me for my ssn after i provided them w/the acct# they have listed on my CRA. I refused ofcourse and they repled that they cannot research my acct w/OUT my ssn. Sounds good to me BUT if I dispute with the CRA's will THEY give them my ssn so they CAN research the acct or is there some law protecting consumers for CRA's giving out personal info such as this.
Sounds like a big song and dance to make you go away and leave them alone. In this day and age of identity fraud SSN's don't even have to be on a drivers license so I can't see where they can demand it from you and deny your request for info based on your refusal. CRA's will verify if they get a match on 2 of the following: Name address and ssn. I don't know how they go about it though.
How should I proceed. they have my name and addy. So if I verify they will get the cra's to keep the listing. HOWEVER, if the CRA doesnt provide them with my ssn then they will not be able to match the amounts/dates etc... I firmly believe if she couldve pulled my acct w/my acct# she wouldve. But she cant. If anyone can lend me ahnd here let me know.
I just found this on the FTC site: The FTC strongly advises that you not give out personal information on the phone, through the mail or over the Internet unless you know who you're dealing with. Identity thieves may pose as representatives of banks, Internet service providers and even government agencies to get you to reveal your Social Security number, mother's maiden name, financial account numbers and other identifying information. Legitimate organizations with whom you do business have the information they need and will not ask you for it. OHHKAAAYYY? I tired to email them with that quote now i get the email back saying undeliverable. I wonder if they change the email when they cant verify? hmmmmmm
