Blacklisting is the act of a creditor using its own files to deny you credit after the FCRA reporting period has taken the bad debt off your credit files.

While derogatory listings on a Credit report have a finite life (7.5 years after default), a creditor can maintain their own credit history on you forever and use that derogatory information in their own files to deny you credit from them. American Express is legendary for having the capacity to never forget and if you default on them, tehy will never approve you for another card until you repay the defaulted card.

I've even seen company's which will keep the blacklist data after they get the account paid.
