I have a FICO around 630. A few derogatory trade-lines, but nothing within the last 3 years. What sort of credit rating do the big boys (AMEX, Citibank, etc) require for their cards?

I have started receiving a lot of "Pre-approval" notices lately, but I don't want to load up my credit report with a lot of inquiries, especially if I can't get approved anyhow.

this is a really good question.

Anyone know the answer to this?

What FICO score to most prime lenders require?

By the way - for those who are interested...

A FICO of 675 will get you out of most car dealerships with the "Advertised" offers or better.

680 seems to be the key to an A rate mortgage.

630 seems to be the bottom line for Mortgage Lenders.

These figures are from my experience... actual results may vary :)
