My question is kind of off topic. I want to set up my long distance bill to be paid by my credit card. But my long distance bills are ridiculously small -- like 4 cents or under a dollar, sometimes nothing. I had once heard that the credit card companies will not let you charge something under a dollar. Is this true? Would they let me charge a 4 cent purchase? Paying that 4 cent bill cost me a lot. There was the 79 cent money order and the 34 cent stamp and the gas and time to go to the store and get the money order. Sigh.
The smallest amount I charged was $1.50. It was at a local grocery store and I just got my card. I wanted to see if I had to call and activate it, or if I just charge it. As it turns out, all I had to do was purchase something. Hope this helps.
LAST MONTH...MCI CHARGED ON DISCOVERCARD...$0.02...MONTH BEFORE...$0.01... IF YOU MAKE A PURCHASE AT A STORE...THEY WILL HAVE TO CALL DISCOVERCARD FOR AUTHORIZATION FOR CHARGES 1 CENT TO 99 CENTS. VISA/MC NO PROBLEM WITH 1 CENT. I'M SURE THEY WOULD LET YOU OVER PAY...OR JUST CALL THEM ON THEIR 800# AND ASK IF YOU CAN WAIT TO PAY TILL YOU HAVE A BILL OVER $5.00!!! I over-pay my utilities all the time so once in a while I owe like $0.89...I called to pay the phone bill on my credit card and they said "you can wait till next month with-out any penalties!!! THEY WOULD PROBABLY RATHER GIVE YOU FULL CREDIT FOR THE $0.04 THAN MAKE YOU PAY THE BILL!!!
It is merchants who try to impose minimum charge limitations, not the card issuers. Technically any merchant who tries to impose such a restriction is violating the terms of their merchant agreement.
CHARGE THE PHONE BILL TO YOUR CREDIT CARD THAT YOU USE THE MOST SO THE 4 CENTS IS JUST ADDED TO ALL THE OTHER CHARGES AND MAKES NO DIFFERENCE.
Thanks everybody for the input! I appreciate it. I guess I will try it. Since I will be using a Visa card, not Discover, I guess I should not have any problem.
