In general, three useful sites are bbb.org, ripoffreport.com, consumeraffairs.com. Also ftc.gov, and various state AG sites where large scale general consumer fraud is involved.

Keep in mind that any large company may have some complaints depending on the volume of their business, and some people screw up their own affairs, but patterns of problems are usually apparent if they occur from multiple reports of the same problems and are not resolved. No company is perfect, and employees make mistakes, but the best companies are effective at fixing them when they occur.

In the most egregious cases, reports tend to show up on web sites years before regulatory action is taken.
