I've read through all the information on this site, and it's been a real eye opener. I am attempting to clear up my badly damaged credit, and if anyone here can help me I'd be very thankful. I basically have 4 negative items on my credit report- 3 credit cards that have been sent to collection agencies, and a balance on a repossesed car that I co-signed for. One of the credit cards I have paid off recently, and as for the other items, I sent letters to the companies explaining that I wanted to pay off the debts. Well after reading the information here, I feel like I just screwed myself. The only reason I wanted to pay everything off was to be able to clean up my credit. What do I do now??? Should I write additional letters to them saying I will only pay if they agree to delete the accounts from my credit report? Will this get me anywhere? If anyone can give me some advice, I'd appreciate it...I'm losing my mind over this!

Don't rush... Kick back and try to relax.. things can't be fixed overnight... I have been lurking for a few months and now just started taking steps into fixing my credit and honest for me it is going to take some time and lots of WORK...

    --oh welcome by the way---

I am pretty much a newbie at this but I would say just read the FAQ... figure out what items of the FAQ applies to you and highlight those sections...

Do you have a copy of your credit report?

another helpful thing to do is to do searches...

if you have piad collections and want to figure out how to get rid of these from your credit report (CR)
do a search for "paid collections"

oh well good luck seriously.. there are lots of helpful people here..

As cib said, take it easy. There are worse things in the world than bad credit, and you are way ahead in the game of repairing your credit, anyway: you found this site. But it's going to take time, cunning, information, and above all, patience. But you will get there.
