Somebody i know opened quite a few credit card accounts in my name while i was in prison and since i've been home, i have disputed them all but most have been verified and still remain. What is the next step in proving that this wasn't me that opened these accounts? Is there anything i can do to fix this situation?

First step is to file a fraud report with the police get copies send to the cc companies and use the legal system that put you away to free you from this debt.If its a friend then you need to protect your self even if it means putting that person on the spot. They did no favors for you, this will stay with you for up to 10 years or longer!

How do i file a fraud report? Will the police even believe me? Wouldn't my paperwork from prison stating my in date and my out date work to prove that i was incarcerated during the time the accounts were opened?

Yes they would. start with the police first to file a case than go from their with the credit bureaus and the cc companies,if your on parole or probation your po could confirm that data as would the prison system.Find the address their were using for card statements etc.ON the case filing you might have to work with the da's office.Don't let this go you served your time theres no reason to punish you any further.

I know the address they were using cause they were staying at my house when i was gone. They were supposed to be my friend. I really don't like the idea of going to the cops BUT if thats the only way then i guess i will have to. I couldn't send in a copy of my face sheet to them myself showing the dates i was in???

In order to protect your self you will have to file a police report and a fraud report.Listen i went through the same thing except prison only they stole from my mother and i could not forgive them. You have to set a line and when they cross it then its personal!

Yes, file an ID theft charge. I agree with jj. You did your time, and someone took advantage of that fact. If they have to face criminal penalties, so be it.

You need to make your fresh start and get your life together.

Yes, and while you are trying to put your life together go to the SS office and apply for disability benefits. You are eligible for a disability pension for the rest of your life. Think I'm kidding? Think again and go apply for it. You should get a disability check for the rest of your life. And if it turns out that I'm wrong, please come back and let me know so I don't tell somebody else the wrong thing. I only know what I have heard so go try it. What have you got to lose?

No, because you were in prison. That means that you lost some rights such as the right to keep and bear arms, the right to hunt game using firearms, the right to vote in many states, the inability to find many types of higher paying employment. It also affects your ability to obtain certain types of bonding and insurance. There are many types of social disabilities that come with the stigma of having been convicted of a crime.

Now then, please understand that when someone told me about the supposed fact that ex convicts I was as surprised unbelieving as you seem to be. I let it pass because I have no need for it therefore no reason to try to find out whether it is true or not. You have that ability because of your conviction. So why not go to a SSI office and find out whether it is true or not and let us know.

Dumb Bob often wonders about stuff: So you are a criminal. You know who you are, what you do and and all that. Fair enough. So you let someone who the bank thought was a worse credit risk than you stay in your house? It's no wonder you got caught.

If you've now "got it going on", Dumb Bob often tries to emulate the hip way of talking of folks he's never met, maybe you should start getting it on with the coppers. They usually just want to ticket people for five over to make their quota anyway, beyond that, they'll be helpful.

Of course you should get this person. Remember when you broke the law? This is like that, but guess what, you are the victim this time! Do you like it? No. So there's a life lesson here, don't hurt other people, and watch your back. Wait, that's two lessons. And for the price of one. You'll get rich this way.
