What should I do?

I'm not sure of my next move. I mailed a validation letter to CA. I paid them for a bad check I supposedly wrote. I started paying them before I knew about validating a debt beforehand (I also thought my ex could have wrote the check). I just recently finished paying them. My letter specifically demanded the orginal check bearing my signature or delete from my CR's. I'm not sure if they were replying to my letter because I haven't received the green card yet. I think we were writing each other at the same time. Their letter says "this is verification that this account has been paid in the event the bank does not return your check". I think this is proof positive that they can not validate!

Should I dispute with CRA's? Wait and see if the CA will delete? Or send the CRA a copy of the letter I received?

Ok, that doesn't add up. When a check is returned, the bank doesn't hold on to it. Why would they have it? (unless it never really bounced in the first place). Are you SURE there really was a bad check?

I don't think you should send a copy of the letter to the CRAs. Then how will you delete if they have that copy? The validation route sounds like a good idea.

nooo. If they did that, they'd have no proof it bounced.

I thought if you BOUNCE a check, they return it to YOU with a letter...

No, it bounces on over to the person who deposited it. That's their only proof of the bad debt.
You definately get a letter, but no check.

That's why I wanted the original check. I don't know for sure if there was really one. I think I paid and didn't have to. I want them to take it off my credit! I was totally ignorant (not much smarter now!) when they contacted me a 2 yrs ago. I said OK and started paying! Now I know better.

I don't pay for a check without seeing the original.
I used to tell them to make a copy of the check and send me the original.
    I quit doing that .
Now I just tell them to send me the original check!
I have never paid a check with out seeing the Qriginal Check first.
