There is a judgement on my credit report from Capital One for an account which I defaulted back in 2001, the judgement was filed in 2004. Since '04 my credit has been outstanding and since then I've gotten two new Capital One accounts. But, I want this judgment gone!!! So, today I called the attorney who had filed the judgement and was told by them that they do not have me in their database. He asked which account this was for and I replied, Capital One. He then procedeed to tell me that Capital One closed their account with them and that all inquiries must be made with Capital One.... Well, I call Capital One and explain the situation with one of their managers and they do not show this particular account in their system either. She sent on to tell me that she will file investigations with each of the credit bureaus and that I will have the results within 60-90 days.... So my question is, what the heck do I do now? What could the outcome of this be?

With some luck the judgement will be removed from your credit reports. I wouldn't count on it as I doubt CAP 1 reported the info, it was probably picked up by Lexis Nexis or the like from court records. You need to call or use online records for your county clerk and find out if a judgement has been recorded in your name and any other name or county you used/resided in for the year the judgement was placed. Depending on what state you live in it could attach itself as a lien to any real estate you own. Don't ignore it just because it was removed from your credit report (if applicable). Find out if something has been filed in a courts records.

You can get a copy of the judgment from the county clerk. It will have the attorney's info on it. Then, contact that attorney. If the attorney claims not to know what you are talking about, give them a copy of the judgment.
