Here's the story - husband had two amex accounts that went to collections last year, we paid them in full through 2 separate CAs, accounts were reported on CRA as 0 balance, closed by credit grantor (no collections reported). About 2 months later, a he got a statement from one of the closed accounts showing a credit. About a month after that, Amex sent him a check for the amount of the credit, about $108. 2 months after THAT, he got a collection letter for the amount of the check from some CA on behalf of Amex. We sent validation letter CRRR, got green card back, and never heard from them again. then last month, he got a settlement offer from Amex. He called them to inquire why he's being charged this amount, they didn't find the statement showing he'd been credited this amount originally. They told him to fax them a dispute, which we did and we included the original val letter we sent to the CA. He got a collection call on his cell at work yesterday, still demanding payment. He asked them to pull his statements from earlier this year, and they wouldn't/couldn't. Can we do an "official" demand val letter to them since they are the OC? We really don't want this on his credit as a chargeoff, but it seems something is awry here. Thanks Poochie
