I have a late on capitol one card. When I was able to pay it they wanted me to settle. I was young and dumb. Now they have the wrong balance on the account I have disputed it before but it came back verified. Can I dispute wrong balance and will they delete it. Also I disputed it in Trans-union and they changed the account to a collection. Can they do this? It was not a collection account before.
well, what is the status and balance of the account? and how does it differ from whats being reported? Thats a start
It is a paid settlement. On Equifax it states paid as agreed but it is a R5 settlement. Rports the wron balance. Experian reports the same way but it has the correct balance. Transunion reports it as a paid collection with the wrong balance. IT is the only think I have negative on my credit report. Should I dispute it as a wrong balarnce? will they simply change the number or will they delete it entirely.

"Also I disputed it in Trans-union and they changed the account to a collection. Can they do this? It was not a collection account before." -IF the account was "settled in full", AND THAT IS THE CORRECT STATUS, it seems to me either TU just up and changed it (rare) or they were given info from the creditor which changed it HINT HINT -Because the account WAS (probably) a collection account, when the creditor received the "dispute" (probably "not mine" as suggested TOO many times here) the creditor looked at the name on the account and said "YUP, its his!" and it was then "resent" back to the credit reporting agency INCLUDING THE "COLLECTION ACCOUNT" info. ( I wish I had a copy of the form they use to show ya) -SEND a DISPUTE to the reporting agency DISPUTING the STATUS of the account and include any and ALL documentation you have to show it was a settlement. go from there FCRA 623 (B)
