I received a collection notice from a CA. I sent the standard valiation ltr. Received back a ltr (via regular mail) with a basic printout, showing my name, address, wrong phone #, and a dollar amt I allegedly owe. (This is supposed to be a bill, however after playing around in MS word for 10 minutes, I created the same thing). My question is: Should I send an estoppel ltr that acknowledges their ridicuolous proof, and basically say in my ltr that its not "true" validation what they sent me. OR should I send the estoppel and just act as if I never received anything.

I'd just send the estoppel letter as is.

what they sent you is, in my opinion, not validation. Validation would consist of:

    Your signature on a contract
    terms for that contract
    statements showing charges/services and payments
A running account of how they got to what you "owe"

In other words, prove it's yours in the first place. then give an accounting of how you owe a balance. Fall down on either and it's bs...

And the printout would have to be from the original creditor... and let me guess, they filled out none of the questions the validation asks for... right.

Thanks Marie, I'll just send the estoppel as if I never heard back from them. And yes, they filled out none of the validation questions, of course. I don't know if the bill is from the original creditor or not, it came from the CA, however it's something a 10 year old could create.
