What's a long credit history?

I've been turned down for credit to buy a new bed twice. They always say I have a short credit history. I'm 22 and have had a Citibank credit card for 3 1/2 years.

3.5 years is long enough for most lenders. Do you only have one card? Maybe what they are saying is you have a "thin" credit history, and should consider getting another 1-2 cards.

Did you look at your credit report? check if citibank is reporting correctly for you.

who knows! Juniper turned me down this last time for having insufficient credit history. I have a huge credit file, and have had credit for many years. With all the Juniper posts, I thought I would try again, but again was denied. I tried a while back, and was denied for other reasons (I think it was my balances).

So first my balances, then my history is insufficient. approx. 9 years is insufficient?

    Romanduv,

I was thinking the same thing about possibly having too few accounts on the report to go by. Checking on that report would be good as you mentioned as well because if Citi is reporting incorrect information, this could be a factor.

    OFF TOPIC:

I'm in the same type of search as you athom311. I'm looking for a bed because my mattress is basically worn down to the springs. I can feel them when I sleep at night and it's not a good feeling. I was looking into buying a WATERBED. Is that the type of bed you are looking for? If you or anyone knows anything about what brands of waterbeds are the best, or if you have a waterbed, please reply here or preferrably in the GENERAL LOUNGE board next door.

I do not know how they can say that you can have a short credit history, when you have had credit since you were the legal age of 18 with a Major Credit Card Company.. If you were 30 , I could understand, but your credit file is where it is supposed to be.. There has to be another reason.. What is the Credit Line and Balance on Your Citi? Good Luck..

When I applied with Sears, they based their decision, not strictly on my entire credit history but only on the accounts that I currently have open. Said they cannot use the closed accounts in their consideration...

Loved the waterbed for 10 years until one Thanksgiving morning 3 years ago I woke to running water. The plug had failed and water was gushing from the end of the bed to the floor, how I didn't get wet I don't know. State Farm paid .... scantally.. saying they would not pay for my bed replacement as it was the "failed item". As hubby wanted to replace ALL the household carpeting at one time. my bedroom remains a plywood floor and the little insurance payment is long gone. Carpet and BED is first purchase after debt is gone! - using metal frame bed of hubby's boss' that was in his storage unit..
