    Hi all,

I've seen a few people going on about the USAA credit card and other loan products. Could someone tell me why this bank is so popular?

What am I missing out on?

If your credit is marginal, a 2.25% over cd rate cd secured loan w/out any credit check that reports to all 3 bureaus is pretty fair ;)

No fee checking and savings. And they're actually nice when you talk with them. They're a bank that seems to actually appreciate your business... who knew there was one still left!

What are the requirements for membership. Isnt that an active duty military thing?

Only for insurance products not bank products,

I've spoken with several credit unions the past couple of months. USAA's telephone reps were the most knowledgeable, helpful & courteous.

    LOVE em...

    No fee banking,

    rebates on checkcard purchases,

free atm and rebate of other atm fees

online wire transfers at no cost from other bank accounts outside usaa; most banks charge for this,

Auto loans at awesome interest rates...110% financing, No one would touch us for less than 12-18%...usaa did 6.5,

Auto loans through usaa carry automatic auto insurance to pay the vehicle off even if it is worth less than you owe on it,

reps are always knowledgable and helpful,

Bonus interest rates on savings accounts over certain amounts,

Lowest insurance rates around (from what I've seen)

No credit check for insurance (although, in some states, no companies will be able to do them as laws are changing)

All types of insurance...med, life, auto, life, home, property, etc...

They work with you one on one for loan approvals, etc.

    Very flexible hours.

Other than that, I cant think of why I like em so much!!!

    Just another plus ...

my friend has a credit card with them but rarely uses it. Her wallet was stolen out of her purse at a restaurant.

As she was driving home, the USAA people called her on her cell and said they thought the card was stolen because there was a LOT of activity on it in the past 20 minutes.

She looked in her purse and sure enough, the card was gone. She was able to call all the other cards and quickly get a stop on all of them, so very little damage could be done.

I was impressed that USAA was so on top of her card activity and saved everyone a lot of headaches.

    peace,
    delilah

I have a checking account through USAA. I LOVE them! Their CSRs are very helpful and friendly.

Get a 1% rebate on my debit card usage :)

My boss has his mortgage through USAA. There was a problem with the amount that was going into his escrow account for property taxes. USAA discovered the inaccuracy and immediately covered the difference needed to pay the bill as it was their error. Other banks would have probably just told him "oops- you need to send a check".

I just wish they had a branch here in Illinois :( But, I do also keep a checking account at a local bank- I'm able to wire money from USAA to my other account for no fee.

They are SO awesome. They only have 1 branch, though...a BIG building in downtown San Antonio. The convenience of doing internet wires for free is really nice.

In addition to what's been listed above.....

I like the refunds for using other banks' ATM's.

When we moved recently, I changed the address on our banking services. Two days later we got a call from the insurance people so we could change the address on our auto insurance since they noticed it meant a decrease in DH's work commute and therefore a decrease in our premium.

The CSR's have been outstanding on both the banking and insurance sides, always willing to help and answer questions.

    :)

Their credit card is awesome, 10% APR and cash advance is the same as a purchase for interest. Plus no fee for cash advance.
    Great company USAA

Do you meet the eligibility requirements? If you can't get past the first page, give them a call.

I love USAA! They are awesome. One of best benefits for those who served, did serve and their families. Awesome customer service, low rates, easy banking, great insurance. I would work for USAA if I could. I give them 2 thumbs up!

USAA is awesome overall, but in Texas, they DO pull your credit report before quoting insurance rates. Which I have complained about. LOUDLY. (LOBBY LOBBY LOBBY, VOTE VOTE VOTE why should the other guy's opinion be the only one considered?)

Except for USAA, who WILL quote you a renter's policy if you are a member, no insurance companies are writing renter's policies for new customers thanks to outrageous mold claims in the state. If you don't already have an existing renter's policy, you can't get a new renter's insurance policy.

Heaven help the new college students getting their first apartments...

I called USAA today to apply for one of their cards, and they have to mail me the application. Any idea how easy they are to get? I have all my CR's in the low 700's, and already have a couple of decent cards in the 7k-12k range.

USAA (INSURANCE) scammed us out of one weeks rental...

    SHORT STORY...
    OUR PARKED CAR
HIT and RUN DUI (MAN ACROSS STREET)
THEY AGREE TO RENTAL AND REPAIR 2-3 WEEKS

Wife went on vacation for 7 days we turned in the rental...RE-RENTED it...they REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE SECOND RENTAL!!!

THAT IS THE LAST TIME WE WILL EVER TRY TO SAVE AN INSURANCE COMPANY MONEY!!!
