When can banks legally report a tradeline?

    Ok, this is all crazy...

I applied for a Chase Freedom visa. I was approved and card sent. Upon opening and reading cardmember agreement (noose), I decided to close the account and not use it.
Now Chase is reporting the account to the bureaus.
On what authority? I did not agree to their cardmember agreement because I did not use the card. So when does a bank receive the legal right to report a tradeline?

Any help from those in the know is appreciated.

After you received it, read the terms and decided NOT to use it - did you call them (Chase) to cancel it?

Might be just a timing issue between your call to cancel it and them removing it. It will improve your credit score If it stays on there as open with a high credit limit but no activity.

They can legally report it when applied for and sent to you.
