is it possible to apply for a credit card that i had about 10 years ago and was charged offed? once one had a charge off for a particular card/company is it ever possible to get the card again?
If it is/was AMEX, my experience has been - NO NEVER. You don't get a 2nd chance. ALthough this has been 10 years. Was it paid off 10 years ago? Or did you open the original account 10 years ago? What CC company is it?
this was a sears card it was charged off about 10 years ago. i also messed up with targets but that was only about 5 years ago
Have the account been paid? If not, even if they have been charged off, I doubt if they will give you another card. Not an expert so dont hold me to this. If the accounts ARE paid, then you may send them a PFB (www.planetfeedback.com) explaining your situation and see what they say.
I had a Citibank charge-off in 1996. I applied again in March 2001 and was declined. I tried a second time in November 2001 after doing 8 months of credit repair work and was approved for two cards with a total credit line of $14,000. I also used to have Amex green, Optima and a green Corporate (small business) card (on my own credit). My accounts were at one time several months past due and Amex canceled all three accounts. I did pay off each account before they charged off. I applied for the green card again in March 2001 and was declined. My second application in November of last year was approved. I also had Discover and MBNA accounts before I ruined my credit. MBNA charged off but never contacted me. For some reason (probably because they called constantly) I never let Discover charge off and I would make a small payment every three or four months when they would call. With late fees, overlimit fees and interest the balance was eventually about $3,000 on a total credit line of $1,000. In January 2001 I began to get serious about wanting to change my habits and clean my credit so I started making regular payments on the account. After I got it below the stated limit so I wasn't getting hit with fees I began making regular smaller payments to try to re-establish a payment history with Discover. I have asked them a couple of times to consider opening the account again but they never have. I finished paying it off last month. I've managed to get the account deleted from EQ and EX and it is my only remaining negative on my TU report. It felt good to pay this one off rather than walking away from the debt. I'll reapply for Discover sometime next year after I'm settled into my new house. MBNA may just be a lost cause for me. It was by far my largest charge off.
Sears will give you another card. I heped my friend with his credit and he had a charge off from Sears about or 8 years ago. He got a new account with a 2.5K cl with a low to mid 600's score. Just be sure Sears is not on any of your files. Iv
