So guys wondering when you first got a Mac or a PC and what kind? My first was a Mac,1995 (still have Macs) desk top that looked like aqua portable tv set. Woofer
I've used PCs since 1984 but I built my first PC in 1995 (a Pentium-2 @ 90 MHz w/ 32 Megabytes of RAM). After a couple of more pre-built PCs, I bought my first MacBook, 2 years ago. I like my MacBook, but I'm not sure if the next one will be a Mac or a PC.
Did you use the PC at work or at home in 1984? I was reading that only 14% of people had a home computer in 1995. I started with my Mac (still have it and use it to watch movies on)then bought a blue lap top that looked like a makeup kit ; ) then went on to a PB4 and use that a lot on business , and my newest is an Imac with a 24 inch screen. I love it! So far I have gotten about 2 dozen people to get a Mac, and or ditch their pc. I should get a commission form Mac, but I bought a little bit of Apple anyway. : ) Oh and feel free to move this thread, as it probably should be somewhere else. Woofer
I bought my first PC when I went to college. It was a Toshiba laptop and it was a hunk of junk. I had nothing but problems with that thing. I had to have the cooling element replaced twice and it would still overheat and shut down.
I used computers at work for about 10 years before I actually broke down and bought one. (Mainly because I kept getting new computers at work to use and I could take them home, if I needed to so, why spend my money?) RE: Mac v. PC, I like the Mac, but for most people, it is now, and is likely to be for the life of my next machine, a "PC world" in terms of application support. That said, on my MacBook, I can run OS-X, 2-3 different versions of Windows (XP, Vista, Win7) and Linux, if I really feel like torturing myself. So, if diversity is important, then a Mac is really the only option (which is why I bought the MacBook a couple of years ago). RE: troubles... I don't want to anger the MacFans, but my MacBook is no stranger to the repair shop. So far, I've had to change the DVD drive and the keyboard/top case. I've also change the HD 3 times and memory 2x, but that was just to make them bigger, not because they didn't work. My 1GB/120GB MacBook is now a 3GB/250 GB MacBook and will soon be a 500GB MacBook. Not bad for a laptop!
I never had a problem so far .. I was so proud of myself to put in more memory (didn't need it but it did make things go faster than ever). I searched on the web and got photos on how to do it (VERY EASY) but I was a novice and was nervous as I thought it was going to be hard to do after all I didn't know anyone but the Mac people that did it. I just sent off my G4 to be all cleaned up and ready to go as I am giving it to my cousin for a graduation gift, and I wanted to give her something that would be like new. I told her I would chip in 500 or give her one all ready to go. She opted for the Mac instead of the money. I think before Christmas I will get myself a new one as Snow Leopard is coming out I like using the lap top as yo can use it anywhere as have the wifi card where I am the hot spot.0 Beautiful day so now off to do some fishing. My first computer was a TRS-80. Used 8.5" disks. After you loaded the memory (from the disk) there was about 9K left. I think it was a 32K memory. My first PC was made by PC Limited (or PCs Limited, not sure which), which became Dell when it went public.
I used PCs (bought my first in '96) until I switched to a Mac in 2007. I can't believe it took me that long to make the leap...better late than never.
Got my first Mac in 2004. I spend almost every waking moment in front of my computer and I couldn't imagine doing so with anything other than a Mac!
I go in cycles. Sometimes I am on every day and some times I can just email at most about once or twice a week. There was a time that I could be on it from early morning until early morning. Woofer
