I am trying to get a couple of paid charge-offs deleted from my CR. Every time I dispute, they come back verified... Anyway - I am now trying another approach. If I dispute the payment history, even though it is already paid, does the creditor have to mark the account as being in dispute? I am thinking that this may be a good way (although it may take a little bit of time) to get these charge-offs deleted - because they are not as likely to respond to my requests, and then I can use it for leverage to get them deleted. Will this work? Thanks for all your help, everyone!
I would love to know the answer to this question. I have a Providian that always comes back verified. Would love to get it removed. so here is a bump for you.
Yeah. I have a collection. That is paid and updated last month. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this. Thanks
Your "leverage" is that you know the FCRA and the FDCPA by heart. (right?!) See, paid charge-offs are tricky because you can't try a payment for deletion. So you are really dependent on the CRA not bing able to verify the tradeline. I say, wait until C.H.U.D. and try again. This time by letter, and don't dispute as "not mine" or some other small issue. Just say the account is being reported incorrectly and that you have been denied credit as a result. Sound angry, but not litigious; you've already disputed once or twice and you don't want to be dropped into the frivolous bin. If that doesn't work, it may be time for drastic measures. You may have to take the CRAs to court. I seriously doubt they'd even show up for a paid collection account. They'd probably settle for a deletion. And of course, there's always the Nutcase. Just my thoughts.
The nutcase letter series in the unofficial faqs page specifically addresses paid derogatory accounts. Try those. C.H.O.D. is still a couple of months away. humblemarc
Yeah, I guess unslaught isn't a word. And thanks for clarifying that the holidays are still a couple months away.
