I have one outstanding delinquent account on two CRs, lots of zero balance charge-offs, and I am wondering why I hardly ever get any good credit card offers (the ones I get are way out of my reach-alumni cards, etc). I have one credit card DMB and a car loan that I've never been late with in the last two years. how does this rack up in terms of being able to get a prime card? Actually, I'm wondering why Providian has never sent me anything. I thought of applying for Aria once, but seeing as how the Persona comes with no grace period, I really can't dig it. But it was only about a year ago when I started trying to clean up my mess that I even heard of Providian. (interestingly, there is a very old inquiry by them on one of my CRs) I don't remember ever getting an offer--maybe my credit was just too bad then or maybe I just threw it out--but they seem to be my best bet of getting decent credit. Is calling them the only way for me to get one? CC
RE: When do the offers come in Charge-offs are very negative, and that's probably why you are not receiving credit offers. You might want to start disputing those to get them off of your report. This will improve your credit rating and the offers will probably start rolling in.
RE: When do the offers come in I have 9 months of flawless after many charge offs. I received my first offer, a kmart capitalone.(* I dont count the countless GOLD CARD offers ive thrown right away) I haven't returned it due to being lazy, but since my report is still very messy, i have much doubts. I do get blanket mailers for discover platinum (priceline folks), and Amex corporate gold card, but i throw those away instantly as well. They are just buying other peoples mailing lists and i stand no chance in heck to get them. ymmv.
RE: When do the offers come in If you have a DMB card why want a Providian? I have a DMB and they great customer service and are always willing to help.Their rates are better than other sub-prime cards. Just Curious
RE: Seriously? CCMAx- I think you've answered your own question. You said you have one outstanding delinquent account and lots of zero-balance charge-offs. The severity of the credit you've stated is why. You do not deserve prime credit offers, as they are reserved for those who have demonstrated that they are capable and willing to pay back any money borrowed by using the card. That's why prime cards come with high limits and low fees. Don't mean to sound harsh, but you have several more years of proving yourself worthy of this type of card before lenders will take another chance. Because each new customer poses some sort of risk, even with A+ credit. Your risk, however, is far too great to be accepted by a prime lender.
RE: When do the offers come in DMB is okay. I'm simply interested in beefing up my profile, and for now Providian looks like the best way to go because of their quick, generous increases. By the way--this always seems to happen--I spoke to soon. When I got home this evening, there was an offer from Orchard in the mail. 19.4%, $79 AF, up to $1000 CL. What do you think of these specs? CC
RE: When do the offers come in HMMM...depends upon the limit. Annual fee is high, but that's the price of bad credit The offer says up $1K, but they may only offer you $250. It all depend on how badly you want credit, I suppose. You might want to do a search on Orchard on this board and read what others have to say about them.
RE: Seriously? I hear you. I wish I had known a bit about negotiations before I paid all those suckers off. It just stood to reason that paying something off is better than letting the balance remain. I have had a few deletions, some due to age, some due to nonverification, so I was under the impression that my profile was improving. I guess not.
