I faxed in a student loan letter yesterday, and I was wondering if anyone has had any success with TU and the fax dept? I used a number I found here, but I also found a few other numbers. I found about 5 numbers for EQ, and faxed the letter to all of them. I'm interested to see if I get any response at all. I'll send them CRRR next time. Hopefully this will work!
I faxed in a dispute but to an affliate of TU(CSC-I live in TX). They sent me a letter about two weeks later via mail that they received my dispute and that it would take them 30 days to investigate. Unfortunately, it came back verified.
If you call TransUnion, they will give you their fax numbers. They have two call centers, in PA and CA, and each has a fax number to send disputes and additional information. I have faxed things to TU and they have done things based on what was faxed. I have never faxed a dispute, but I suspect they will give it proper treatment. For Equifax, I suspect you will have to deal with an affiliate, depending on where you live. My affiliate is CSC in Houston, and they have at least two fax numbers, one of them even toll-free. Again, if you call their customer service number they will gladly give you the proper fax number to send disputes. I have faxed disputes to CSC and they were treated correctly. I have also faxed requests for procedures to CSC, but these were treated as though they were disputes and not properly handled. I would say that CSC will process a faxed dispute properly. I can't vouch for any other Equifax affiliate, or for the main company itself. The only CRA that refuses to accept anything faxed to them, in my experience, is Experian. There is a fax number listed on the BBB company reports page for Experian, but I have never gotten a reply from sending a fax there. When asked, no one I have spoken to will give out a fax number. Experian, in general, has been very stubborn about disputes, and has been extremely difficult for me to deal with. Lately, when I fax something, I follow up with a letter, CRRR, just to be safe. If you are trying to save money then you are probably ok with just a fax, provided you have confirmation that it was received. A third-party fax, long distance, will cost about the same as a CRRR letter though, so unless you have a fax machine at the office... CSC is an Equifax affiliate, not TransUnion.
My problem w/ TU is it's an affiliate out of Buffalo, and they don't accept phone calls. Why they even have a phone #, I don't know! LOL I faxed a letter showing that my husbands student loans were in forbearance during the times that they have marked as late. I'm hoping it works, but if not, it's no biggie to remail them. It's not like they need to be done this second. I was just at home, and decided to do them spur of the moment. If I don't hear anything in a few weeks, I'll mail them CRRR. I was just curious if anyone has had any luck. I've faxed a few things, but the only people to ever respond were Sallie Mae(they are quick w/ negative responses) and a CC app. Thanks for the input! (ps, I don't fax anything that has SSN's on them. I put the address though, hope that's ok!)
