When you apply for a credit card, when is the new account officially a new account. In other words if I apply for a card that says as low as 12.99% and I get a card that says 18.99%, can I just cut up the offer or do I have to call them?

I thought a person has not accepted a credit card until they have called the 800 number on the little sticker on the card. Is this not correct?

    Erik,
Actually, you call the 800# to activate the account. The card is allready yours and presumed to be accepted. I would call the 800# and tell them that when you applied you were under the impression that is was for a card with a lower rate. Companies do this a lot---if you don't qualify for one program they bump you down to the next, but usually they tell you first. I would definately call first and make sure they know you don't want to card-- before cutting it up and forgeting about it.

This is what I had heard. A legal bait and switch.

    Thanks for the info.
