Does anyone know of a website where I can find completed Florida bankruptcy paperwork? I have seen the FL courts website but it lists only opinions. Other than Pacer, is this information available at a law library, the court or online? Thank you for any help you can provide. Robert
The only places I have seen are those places online that you can download blank forms that you can fill out for filing. Other than that, you would need to talk with a BK atty for info. Sorry I am no further help. fla-tan
Completed Minnesota BK filings can be found here: http://www.mnb.uscourts.gov/ You need Adobe Acrobat and PaperPort viewers to read the files found here. There is currently no charge to look up BK filings here.
I'll reply to my own post with the correct information The best place to look up completed BK filings is the U.S. Courthouse for the district you are in. Here in FL, that would be the N Florida/Middle District/S FL Courthouses. Simply walk in there, find the clerk on duty, and ask to log into Pacer. You might have to pay for access, you might not. In this district, I did not have to. Once in Pacer, try looking up cases by last name. Once you have a feel for the case numbers, you can plug some in and search more in depth. Using prior 7BK cases as a template, you can quickly find which codes you need. While searching a few cases, I realized the relatively few codes I needed for household goods, a vehicle, a savings account and an IRA. Also, the 7BK & 13BK books by Nolo are absolutely excellent! I paid less than $34.99 and completed/filed the paperwork by myself. Saved over $500 that an attorney was going to charge me. A simple BK can be handled by someone w/out an attorney if they research the law enough. Also, as the saying goes 'Don't delegate a responsibility that someone might screw up'. If you "screw up" a bankruptcy, it could effect you for years to come.
Re: Where 2 find completed BK paper While the NOLO books are good for simple Chapter 7 filings, be very careful using them for Chapter 13. The reason is because of inconsistency among the Chapter 13 plan forms which can vary among BK districts. Also, if you screw up on filing the Chapter 13 plan budget the Trusteee will delay approval. By acting pro se you don't find this out until you show up for the hearing. PACER look ups at the BK court are free and 7 cents per page via internet. Also, in most courts they print a docket several times per day which lists the debtor and type of filing (7, 11, 13, etc.). Ask to see the docket and then you don't have to worry about using PACER which does not show the actual forms. The best filings to look at are fresh ones filed the same day or the day before. Most courts have a public area where a copy of cases filed that day are available to examine and copy. You will also see how much lawyers rip off people on the simpler cases. It's a crime. In my area the court let's them get away with charging as much as $1,500 for what is really a $300 job (they use a paralegal with software to kick out the schedules) and they don't even give the client a jar of Vaseline.
